Tense Review Exercise

Instruction: Decide whether you should put each verb in the simple present tense, the present continuous tense, the present perfect tense, the present perfect continuous tense, or the simple past tense.

1. Rina is in her room, studying. She (study) … for tomorrow’s history test. Rina is a smart student. She (study) … for at least 2 hours after school every day. Last night she (study) … for 3 hours.

2. A: What he (do) … in the living room right now?
B: He (read) … a novel. He (read) … for two hours. He (read) … the first two chapters of the novel.

3. My grandmother always (give) … some money to a child who (visit) … her. Yesterday she (give) … me some when I (visit) … her the second time. I (visit) … her twice so far.

4. My friend Nina (not, live) … in this town any more. She (move) … to another town last year. Now she (live) … in the town. So, she (live) … there for a year.

5. My mom (go) … shopping every month. She often (bring) … me with her. Yesterday she (go) … shopping and (buy) … me some books.

6. I (look) … for the car key since I (lose) … it yesterday. But, I (not, get) … it yet.

7. We (have) … breakfast at 7 this morning. We all (get) … up late.
