The Simple Past Tense: Exercise 2

Instruction: Put each of the following sentences into the simple past tense. After that, make the sentence into an interrogative and negative one. Use a suitable time signal to indicate past time.

Example:

Ana goes to the movies once a week.

a. Ana went to the movies last night.
b. Did Ana go to the movies last night?
c. Ana didn’t go to the movies last night.

1. Maria goes to school very early every day.
2. Joko waits for the school bus in the corner of the street every morning.
3. My father drinks two cups of tea every day.
4. Mom takes my little sister to school every day.
5. My brother studies two hours before he goes to bed.
6. I live in Yogyakarta.
7. My nextdoor neighbor Ana goes jogging every morning.
8. Nina takes 2 photoes of herself every morning.
9. I walk to school.
10. Budi visits me in Yogyakarta twice a year.
11. Mr. Nanang teaches English to the tenth graders.
12. Dad takes us for a ride around the town every weekend.
13. It rains almost every day here in Bogor.
14. He smokes at least ten cigarettes a day.
15. Rina plays tennis every afternoon.

Instruction: All of the following sentences are in the simple past tense. For each sentence, make two good questions. One is a yes-no question, and the second one is a wh-word question based on the underlined phrase.

Example:

Dono did his homework in this room.

a. Did Dono do his homework in his room last night?
b. Where did Dono do his homework last night?
