Tense Review Exercise

Instruction: Put the verb in the brackets into the simple present tense, the present continuous tense, the present perfect tense, the present perfect continuous tense, the simple past tense, the past continuous tense, or the past perfect tense.

1. Last night we (go) … to a rock concert. We (enjoy) … the show. While they (perform) … on stage, singing the third song, we (hear) … a gun shot. The people (scream) …. and (run) … topsy-turvy in all directions. It was so chaotic.

2. The Boss: Could you print the email for me, please?
The Secretary: I (already, print) … it, sir. Here you are. I (print) … it a few minutes ago.

3. I (love) … plays very much. I (go) … to the theater once a month. Right now we (watch) … a play. The play (begin) … half an hour ago. So, we (watch) … it for 30 minutes.

4. It is the first period. The bell (ring) … 20 minutes ago. Mr. Denny, the English teacher, (teach) … the English tenses right now. The students (listen) … to him. The lesson (run) … for 20 minutes.

5. I (be) … in the classroom right now. Maria (sit) … right in front of me. I usually (sit) … behind her. Yesterday, she (be) … absent because she was sick. She (never, be) … absent before.

6. Yesterday I (go) … to the local shopping mall. I (buy) … a T-shirt and a pair of shoes. While I (talk) … with one of the shop assistants, two strangers (approach) … and one of them (point) … his revolver at her. It (be) my first time to deal with robbers. It was kind of scary.
